Read a guide to the Keihin-Tohoku-Negishi Line, a train line operated by Japan Rail, that connects Saitama in the north with Tokyo and, further south, with Kanagawa prefecture.
The Keihin-Tōhoku Line is a Japan Rail train line running north-south through greater Tokyo, from Omiya (in Saitama prefecture) through Tokyo, down to Yokohama (in Kanagawa prefecture).
The Negishi Line connects to the Keihin-Tōhoku line at Yokohama, and goes down to Ōfuna. The Keihin-Tōhoku-Negishi Line is the name given to the whole stretch of line from Ōmiya in the north to Ōfuna in the south.
Sky blue is the color of Keihin-Tōhoku trains and of the Keihin-Tōhoku line on maps.
There are 35 stations on the Keihin-Tōhoku line, and most trains on it are Local (kaku-eki-teisha), stopping at every station. The Rapid (kaisoku) trains skip only five stations - all on the stretch of rail that the Keihin-Tōhoku shares with the Yamanote Line: Nishi-Nippori, Nippori, Uguisudani, Yūrakuchō, and Shinbashi stations. Rapid trains skip Okachimachi Station on weekdays, but stop there on weekends and Japanese public holidays.
Transferring to the Yamanote Line without leaving the platform you alight at is possible at Tabata, Ueno, Akihabara, Kanda, Tokyo, Hamamatsuchō, and Tamachi stations.
If traveling from Tokyo to Yokohama, be sure to first check the fastest route, as it is not necessarily the Keihin-Tōhoku Line.

0 KM - Ōmiya Station 大宮
Ōmiya is the commercial center of Saitama, where you can experience the prefecture at its most lively. The Railway Museum is a fun, full-on railway experience for enthusiasts and the merely curious alike. Ōmiya Park (Omiya Kōen) is a very big, very popular park just 1 km north-east of Ōmiya Station, and a must-visit spot for cherry blossom viewing. Hikawa Shrine is a grand old Shinto shrine on the edge of Ōmiya Park. Saitama Prefectural Museum of History and Folklore (9 am - 4:30 pm, but open until 5 pm; closed Mondays, except when Monday is a public holiday, or falls on May 1 or 2; 300 yen for adults) is also located in Ōmiya Park. Ōmiya Bonsai Village with its Ōmiya Bonsai Art Museum is two stops north of Ōmiya Station, accessible from either Ōmiya Kōen Station on the Tōbu Urban Park Line, formerly known as Tōbu Noda Line, or Toro Station on the JR Utsunomiya Line.
Transfer at Ōmiya Station to the JR Utsunomiya Line, Tobu Urban Park Line, Shōnan–Shinjuku Line, Ueno Tokyo Line, Narita Express, Takasaki Line, Saikyō Line, Kawasaki Line, Tōhoku Shinkansen, Jōetsu Shinkansen, Hokuriku Shinkansen, Akita Shinkansen, Yamagata Shinkansen, and the New Shuttle.

Saitama Super Arena is right next to Saitama-Shintoshin Station, the station having been built specially to service this very popular stadium that hosts big names in sport and music.
Cocoon City shopping center is also nearby Saitama-Shintoshin Station.

Kita-Yono Station on the Saikyō Line is about 6-7 minutes walk south-west.

Saitama Museum of Modern Art (MOMAS) (10 am – 5:30 pm, last entry 5 pm, closed Mondays (except on national holidays, Saitama Residents' Day, New Year, and for maintenance), striking in its design, is just in front of the West Exit of Kita-Urawa Station, located in Kita-Urawa Park which has a music fountain that plays for 10 minutes every two hours between 10 am and 8 pm (until 6 pm Sep-Feb).
There are no transfers at Kita-Urawa Station.
